Protect against decay for lasting dental wellness.

Dental sealants consist of a thin layer of acrylic coating that is painted on the surface of an individual’s back molars. Once applied, dental sealants establish an effective barrier against harmful oral bacteria and acids. Sealants also smooth out the deep grooves and fissures present on a person’s back teeth, making these teeth easier to clean and maintain.

Nearly 75 percent of all tooth decay found within the mouth is located inside the deep grooves and fissures present on a person’s back teeth. Even with correct brushing and flossing techniques, these areas are difficult to reach. When these surfaces are smoothed out with dental sealants, they become significantly easier to maintain.

Some of the best candidates for dental sealants are children and teenagers who are still developing proper brushing and flossing habits. Baby teeth, which typically include deep grooves and fissures, can experience tremendous benefits from dental sealants. Many adults also choose to receive dental sealants because of the protection they provide.

Applying Dental Sealants
Dental sealants can be applied in just one visit using a quick and easy process that only requires a couple of minutes per tooth. The first step is to dry and clean any tooth that is going to be treated. Next, the outer surfaces of these teeth are roughened using an etching solution. This helps the sealant bond with the teeth more easily.

Once the teeth are ready, the etching solution is rinsed away, and the teeth are re-dried. Acrylic sealant is then carefully painted onto the teeth and allowed to dry completely. After the process is complete, we make sure that the teeth have been fully sealed and that all of the deep grooves and fissures have been completely blocked off.
